Your Comments and Letters
We've had a lot of folks send us comments. It is exciting to see how many of you really appreciate Louis L'Amour and his work. Here are some of the comments I have gotten from folks:
"I started reading Louis L'Amour when I was 14 years old. A dying
man, whom I had visited when I was on summer vacation, gave me my
first paperback by L'Amour and I was hooked. The great writing
and relaxing manner in which his stories were presented became
allies in life..."
-- La Crescenta, CA
"I like the way you set up the intro page. One of Mr. L'Amour's
best books is The Walking Drum."
-- High School in Missouri
"My parents read Louis L'Amour for many years, but I only
developed an interest in him in the mid 80's. Being a fan of
historical fiction more than Westerns in specific, I found the
early Sackett and 'The Walking Drum' quite interesting. Since
starting, I've read most of his westerns and always enjoyed them.
Do you have any info on Shalako? I recall he was trying to build
a historical recreation town of that name somewhere in AZ?"
-- Connecticut
"I have read all his novels and most of his short stories. I have
yet to read any of his poetry. I wasn't surprised to learn he had
written several Hopaling Cassidy novels."
-- Norman, Ok.
"Congratulations for your great idea. I'm the publisher of
L'Amour's famous series SACKETTS, and of another else. I just
shall read your news, but with great interest. Good luck!"
-- Czech Republic - Prague
"Whatever became of Rip Coker?"
-- Ohio
"I love his work!! I grew up in northwestern New Mexico and can
attest as to the accuracy and beauty of his haunts there. Keep
up the good work!"
-- Hayden Idaho
"Hi, I'm a new Net Rat. Glad to find your page. I've read all
the books Louis wrote and were published in the Bantom hard back
editions. I still have them all too. Re read from time to time.
I had hoped that one of his children would have picked up the
challenge and tried his or her hand at extending the string.
Louis was about the best story teller I've read and he seemed to
get accross a good yarn without resorting to the smutt that so
many other writers do today. Closest I've found to Louis is Tony
Hillerman. His problem is he can't crank them out like Louis and
I find myself waiting for the next novel."
-- Extom Pa.
"I own all of Louis L'Amour's books, all in paperback and all in
perfect condition. My all-time favorite was Jubal Sackett. I'm
not sure what I'd like to see from this page, but I'll keep
looking to see what develops."
-- Garland, Texas
"I think that the great man is honored this way. I intend to
visit often."
-- Cadillac, Michigan
"I think his work should be taught in all education..."
-- India
"Your Web site is very well layed out, clear, to the point yet
interesting. So far I have 51 of Louis' books which I have
collected over the past three years. I (like Mr. L'Amour) have
sister named Emmy-Lou! Keep up the great work."
-- London, Ontario
"Thank you for this site."
-- Japan
"I'm ecstatic to see this page here! I am a junior high school
teacher and have used L'Amour books frequently in my teaching. I
would like to see more old west links for teachers. Thanks!"
-- Fillmore California
"I am in the process of collecting the complete works of Louis
Lamour. I am extremly happy to see such an incredible writer
represented on the Internet. Thank you."
-- Huntsville, Alabama
"LL is an absolutely great author. He instills a knowledge and
love of the west and wild country in those of us who read his
books. I never go into the mountains without thinking of Sackett,
Talon, and others. Keep up the good work."
-- Montana
"I inherited my collection and my love for a good western from my
dad."
-- Ft. Worth, TX
"I would enjoy a forum regarding Louis La'Amour, as my only other
contact with LL readers was my dad. I have so many questions, and
miss the discussions about the Sacketts. Last I heard (years ago)
was that Mr. L'Amour was planning to write 13 more Sackett
novels, although that comment was just before his untimely
demise. Did he have manuscripts waiting to be published?
Thanks."
-- Ft. Worth, TX
"I have only been reading his works for about 3 months but I have
managed to take in about 10. So far the ones that I have enjoyed
the most are those about the magnificent Sackett family I also
enjoyed Hondo, and even though I am a big John Wayne fan, I
thought that the book was much better. So far this is an
excellent site. I would like to see some cowboy art if at all
possible . Keep up the good work!"
-- plano texas
"Reading Louis L'Amour books as given me a lot more insight into
our history. They have also helped me to understand the thoughts
and motivations of others. And they're fun to read!"
-- Redlands, CA
"I've read Louie's book since the 70's, and have read just about
everyone of them. I have also collected 30-40 audio adaptations
of his short stories on tape from Bantam. I really enjoy the way
he describes the geography, topography, landscape, and other
features of the land. I can practically take a vacation by
reading one of his works. His stories are wholesome and true to
history. I like your idea of dedicating a site to his honor.
THANKS!"
